Dedicated web hosting
There are diverse types of web hosting services. There is a solution for every individual web site or web application. Shared webhosting is the basic webhosting solution with which most people are familiar. With shared webhosting, the domain shares one Internet Protocol address and one server with many other similarly hosted domains. A Dedicated Hosting IP account has its own unique IP (Internet Protocol) address that will not be shared by any other domain names on the same server. An individual IP is thought by some to be helpful in search engine optimization (SEO). Dedicated server hosting is on a server not shared by another domain name. This type of hosting is more flexible than shared web hosting. There is greater control over the server. There is a more flexible choice of server specifics.
Virtual dedicated servers or VDS, also called a virtual private server or VPS, is a virtualization software-driven webhosting solution wherein the hosted client has all the benefits of a dedicated server without the expense. VDS divides a server so that each virtual vedicated server has its own operating system and “server” specifics.
The two most favored server operating systems are Windows and Linux. Linux is especially favored in that it is a cheap install and is easy to get up and running. Windows, of course, is also very popular in that there is an immense amount of support behind it.
As for supported languages, Coldfusion® is a language used on Windows and Linux servers that is typically used for data-driven web sites or intranets. Java™ is a “drag and drop” language created to run in a similar fashion on most hardware/operating-system programs. Ruby on rails® is an open source web framework written with the Ruby language. It is used by web developers for quick development. Python™ is a powerful all-purpose programming language which emphasizes code readability with very clear syntax. Its program library is humongous and adaptable. Python is used as a scripting and non-scripting language. The software framework, Microsoft .NET Framework provides a large library of common programming coded solutions. The Microsoft .NET Framework is meant to be used by most Windows platforms and new applications. Process and Experiment Automation Realtime Language or “PEARL” is a high-level multi-tasking and real-time computer programming language that is largely hardware-independent. PHP or “Hypertext Preprocessor” is a favored general-purpose scripting language.
There are a few accomplished Linux-based content management systems. For example, Joomla!™, a kind of open source stepbrother to Mambo™, is written in php. Drupal, also written in PHP, is a very popular content management system (CMS). It is free and distributed under the General Public License. WordPress is another very prefered PHP-based content management system or CMS. It is usually employed as a blog application.
Some prefered Windows applications include Frontpage®, which gives web support to the prefered Microsoft Office FrontPage HTML program. Microsoft Access® is a Microsoft Office related database management system.
With the several web hosting services and applications available under both Linux and Windows, there is a perfect solution for every web site or web application.

Well, it’s always been my opinion that dedicated servers are overkill for most sites. VPS accounts are sufficient and even shared accounts can be enough for most of the sites on the web. However, if your site is super high-traffic or you run a high-traffic ecommerce site then yes, go dedicated. But, even then it seems that VPS or cloud service would suffice and save money as well.
Anyway, the point is that you have to itemize it and break it down to a point that will make the most sense and then just compare.
